Following the amazing success of his latest album, “Birds Requiem,” the master of the Arabic oud and well-known singer Dhafer Youssef is returning with his long-awaited album “Diwan of Beauty and Odd,” a musical celebration in which the prolific Tunisian composer strengthens his standing as one of the most innovative musicians over the last decade. The eleven compositions to be found in “Diwan of Beauty and Odd” explore one of the most alluring dualities: that of things both beautiful and strange.
Dhafer is extraordinarily skilled at transcending genres and limits, playing with the asymmetrical quality of uneven metrics to offer us his musical prowess of intriguing complexity, which nonetheless remain infinitely beautiful while still within our grasp. Dhafer’s genius lies therein: in composing music which expresses harmony through the amazing dynamics of opposites given life by our world. For his first tour in Europe, Dhafer Youssef will be performing alongside musicians who are undoubtedly among some of the best which New York’s jazz scene has to offer: Aaron Parks at the piano, Ben Williams on bass and Justin Faulkner on the drums.
Dhafer promises a fascinating, sublime journey that combines Eastern influences with New York’s urban groove. He has created a vibrant fusion of traditional and contemporary influences in what amounts to a universal calling for peace delivered in the subtlest of ways.
