Congress on “The Hispanic World and Presences of Al-Andalus and the Middle East in the Work of Gilberto Freyre”

Organized by the Center for Brazilian Studies at the University of Salamanca on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the sociologist from Pernambuco, to be held on the dates of February 25 and 26, 2020. The call for submitting presentations will remain open until December 31, 2019.

As part of the commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Pernambucan sociologist Gilberto Freyre, the University of Salamanca’s Center for Brazilian Studies is organizing an International Social and Human Sciences Congress titled “The Hispanic World and the Presences of Al-Andalus and the Middle East in the Work of Gilberto Freyre,” under the direction of Professors Ángel Espina and Ignacio Berdugo (USAL) and the academic coordination of Mário Hélio Gomes de Lima (of the Joaquim Berdugo Foundation/Ministry of Education - Recife, Brazil) and Pablo González Velasco (USAL).

The Congress, to be held on the dates of February 25 and 26, 2020 at the Hospedería Fonseca, is now making an open call amongst researchers on the Iberian hypotheses of Casa-Grande & Senzala and the later formulation of “Hispanotropicology.” Those interested in taking part may submit their presentation proposals (in Spanish, Portuguese or English) from September 23 through December 31, 2019 at the email address gilbertofreyre@usal.es.
