Day of the Arab Expatriate

Wednesday December 19th, the Day of the Arab Expatriate with two speeches and homage to prominent members and associations of the Arab community living in Spain.

The program began with the welcome speech by Eduardo López Busquets, director general of Casa Árabe, and Mr. Mohammed Hanèche, Ambassador of Algeria to Spain and the dean of the group of Arab Ambassadors.
Afterwards, Mr. Hassine Bouzid, Ambassador, Chief of the Mission of the League of Arab States in Madrid, who talked on ‘The Relevance Agreed by the League of Arab States to the Arab Migrant’, and Najib Abu Warda, professor of the Complutense University of Madrid, who dealt with ‘The Role of the Arab Community in the Promotion of Arab-European Relations.’

Once the speeches were given, three members and an association of the Arab community residing in Spain were honoured.

The event organized by the Council of Arab Ambassadors took place at 20.00 at the Casa Árabe’s Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62).

Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab State agreed in 2004 that on December 4th it was to be celebrated the Day of the Arab Expatriate, aimed to highlight the role this collective is deploying at every level, with its contributions to the prosperity of the Spanish society and the cohesion to preserve its cultural legacy.
 
This community presence in Spain reflects the deep of the existing historian and civilization links between the Arab world and Spain, which constitute a solid communication bridge between both and they consolidate and diversify the privileged relations both parties aim to.
