The debate included the participation of experts such as Jesús Núñez Villaverde (co-director of IECAH), Moussa Bourekba (Researcher at CIDOB) and Carola García Calvo (Senior Researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute), who dealt with the phenomenon of violent extremism, its multidimensional scope and its influence in the countries of both South and North.
Mentioned among the tools to combat violent extremism were tolerance and civic co-existence. The importance of the role played by young people and women in combating extremism was highlighted, as was the need to empower them by encouraging their participation. Last of all, education and job creation stood out as two effective strategies to fight violent extremism.
This debate was held in continuation of the film series on “Peaceful co-existence and the prevention of violent radicalization,” organized last January by the CIDEAL Foundation and Casa Árabe.
