On the book

In 2012 the signature of the Spanish-French Protectorate Treaty turns a century. On this event, this work shows the well organized documentary funds collected at the Islamic Library Félix Mª Pareja (AECID Library) on the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco. The first part of the book bearing that title is made out of the contribution of 10 experts.

Chronologically the documents compiled refer to the whole century, from that period (1912-1956) up to now, besides some of them can be considered as forerunners because they mention the Algeciras Conference. It is a chance to spread the wide varied compilation of documents which have been guarded for more than 50 years. This specialized bibliography and the reflections and comments of different experts on the topic will enable to visualize those spaces left in blank in historiography and it will help both Spanish and Moroccan researchers and institutions to fill them in.

The volumes the library has currently are due to the acquisition policy carried out for years; to the exchange with other organisations and institutions; and also to important donations, as well as legacies such as the ones from Mariano Arribas Palau (2002), Fernando Valderrama (2004) and Rodolfo Gil Grimau (2012), arabists which have played a crucial role in history and the study of these thematic and geographic areas, which are reflected on the catalogues which have already been produced and which shortly will be completed by Fernando de Ágreda’s legacy.

Exhibition of the funds in the headquarters of the Islamic Library Félix Mª Pareja
