The Valencian firm Tomás Llavador Arquitectos e Ingenieros SL has been selected by the Moroccan authorities to design the new Casablanca Aquarium, which is planned to open in 2018, becoming a great new attraction site for the city.
The complex will be built next to the gardens of the Great Mosque, on a plot of land measuring 16,000 m² on the Seaside Walkway of the Corniche along the Casablanca Marina. The project includes different spaces for displaying the environments in a wide range of marine habitats and their characteristic animal life.
It will be equipped with a tank for Mediterranean Sea life, a shark and tropical fish tank, with a 22-meter tunnel and an Oceans tank with an acrylic surface measuring nearly 100 m². In the outdoor area will be a space with mangroves and tropical species, as well as a dolphin center for shows. It will also house three restaurants, one along the seaside walkway, from which it will be possible to enjoy the views by the gardens of Casablanca’s Great Mosque, near the medina and the old city.
The Aquarium is hoped to become a facility for the city where the behavior and lifestyle of different species can be studied, as well as educating children to respect the seas and our planet’s sustainability, to learn more about the history and importance of maritime routes, and the transmission of culture and trade through the oceans.
The reward of this project is also an important opportunity for the Spanish companies that have been contracted and businesses specializing in theme parks, hydraulics and electromechanics, as well as Spanish construction companies in general.
