European project: MIDA - Mediating Islam in the Digital Age

The deadline for submitting applications has been extended to June 15.

The project provides specialized training for a three-year period to fifteen pre-doctoral and doctoral researchers with fewer than four years completing their thesis (Early Stage Researchers - ESRs), innovators, entrepreneurs, creatives and individuals in the social and human sciences, through an interdisciplinary research program, the goal of which is to understand the major influence held by digitalization and technological innovation in Islam, from a wide variety of perspectives: in the ways messages and religious traditions are expressed and communicated, and in the ways connections are made with society.
 
It is articulated into themed packages (WP), in fields in which digitalization and technological change require a specific level of specialization, including: the topic of individuals (men or women) and collective identities (WP1); the birth of new languages with the advent of new media (WP2); the appropriation, transmission and invention of new objects and arts, with their corresponding forms of representation (WP3); the topic of authority and knowledge, being questioned at the present time (WP4), all in a world in which the increase in mobility and mobilization is unprecedented (WP5).
 
The project has been granted financing by the European research and innovation program Horizon 2020, within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie research fellowship program. Taking part in the project are twelve European universities and research centers (CNRS, University of Leiden, University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, CSIC, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Freie Universität Berlin, Université Catholique de Louvain, GIGA, IRD, Cultural Heritage Without Border), with the collaboration of thirteen companies, institutions and NGOs, as well as organizations associated with the project (PS Media, Brill, Al-Jazeera Media Institute, Casa Árabe, the National Museum of Cultures in Amsterdam, the Gotha Research Library at Erfurt University, Centre Pompidou, EHESS, UAM, University of Granada, UB, University of Paris I – Sorbonne and University of Sarajevo) from six European countries (Germany, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Spain, France and Holland). It has been coordinated from the Institute of Studies on Islam and Muslim World Societies at the CNRS.
