The opening (on May 28), which is being brought to Casa África within the framework of the Spanish presidency of the General Assembly of the Sahel Alliance, was attended by Casa África’s General Director, José Segura Clavell, the exhibition curator, Irene López de Castro, and Malian artist Fatoumata Tioye Coulibaly.
Bogolanfini is a Bambara word that combines the concepts of bogo (clay), lan (result) and fini (fabric), or in other words, “the result of placing clay onto fabric.” This exhibition allows us to become familiar with the origin and technique of bogolan, starting with the ancient taafé (women’s cloths), then showing the evolution of “clay painting” in commercial crafts, training, decoration, fashion and contemporary art.
The exhibition also forms part of África Vive 2021, a series of activities with which Casa África is celebrating Africa Day.
