MADRID
The purpose of the event is to raise public awareness about the structural barriers in the labor, social and economic spheres, and to make them more visible, in order to create a space for dialogue and proposals to improve these women’s quality of life.
During the event, experts in migration, gender and human rights will analyze the specific difficulties faced by migrant women in attempting to find jobs, fight gender violence and achieve social mobility. In addition to this, there will be presentations showing successful experiences among different third sector organizations that have developed strategies for labor market integration and women’s empowerment.
The event, which will be held at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium (Calle Alcalá, 62) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. will include a theoretical introduction on intersectionality and gender inequality in migratory contexts, followed by two round table discussions:
The first will include participation by experts Amal Hussein, an Afro-Spanish activist who is a role model in the field of preventing female genital mutilation, Alexia Galanakis, a journalist and researcher in the field of migration and human rights, and Nicole Ndongala, a Congolese activist who heads the Karibu Association.
After this, there will be a round table to discuss successful experiences, with the intervention of Zakia El Khamlichi, a neighborhood mediator and activist, Iriana Acosta, a migrant activist and artist, M. Belén Meha Boabonay, president of the Bubi Sociocultural Association, and Azul Carvajal.
In addition to the presentation by these experts, participation will be encouraged by asking for the public’s questions and thoughts, thus providing a space in which everyone can share their experiences. Supporting materials will be provided and attendees will be invited to contribute their perspectives on the day of the event in order to seek improvement for future initiatives.
This event represents an opportunity to take a closer look at the realities of migrant women in Spain and contribute to designing collective solutions that may reduce inequalities.
