Islamic finance and financial exclusion
The conference was CANCELED due to unforeseeable events at the last
minute. On Monday, February 4, the SCIEF has organized this conference,
at which Professor Torkel Bekke will be analyzing the impact of Islamic
ideas on money and finance on the economic exclusion of Muslim
immigrants and refugees.
The Spanish-Saudi Center for Islamic Economics and finance (SCIEF) at the IE Business School has organized this conference to be given by Torkel Brekke, a professor of History of Religions at the University of Oslo and coordinator of the FINEX research project of the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), which analyzes to what extent certain Islamic ideas involving money and usury may impact the financial exclusion of Muslim immigrants and refugees in Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland). This financial exclusion is mainly examined in terms of access to housing, due to avoiding loans and mortgages at conventional banks, and the way this can have a significant impact on the economic integration of these social groups.
The conference will be held on Monday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the IE Business School (address: Calle María de Molina, 7, D-201).
