The story of the “La hermosa Jarifa,” playing at Spanish theaters

It can be seen during the month of July in Salamanca, Niebla and Olmedo

The work is based on the “Historia del Abencerraje y de la hermosa Jarifa” (“Story of the Abencerraje and the Beautiful Sharifa”) by Antonio de Villegas, the “Romancero Popular” and other sources. 

“La hermosa Jarifa”
Directed and adapted by Borja Rodríguez (Rojas Award for the best show in 2012), and with stagecraft by Ricardo S. Cuerda (MAX Award of 2007), the lighting design was created by Juanjo Llorens (MAX Awards of 2011 and 2012).  Starring Daniel Holguín and Sara Rivero, the cast also includes Antonio Gil, Fernando Huesca, Inés León, Carles Cuevas, Cristina Arias and Francis Guerrero.   The musical works were created by Alberto Pérez Centella, Javier Valdunciel and Raúl Mannola. The consultation on voice and lyrics was given by Pepa Pedroche, with the choreography and movement by Nuria Castejón, and stage fighting by Pedro Almagro.

The premiere took place on July 4, 5 and 6 July in a co-production with the ALMAGRO CLASSICAL THEATER FESTIVAL, with the cooperation of Casa Árabe, and the support of the Provincial Government of Ciudad Real, the Olmedo Classical Theater Festival, the University of Granada (whose department of History and Music Sciences closely collaborated on the study for creation of the work’s original music), and the Foundation for the Co-existence of the Four Cultures in Ceuta.
