Relations between Spain and Qatar are very good at all levels. In the realm of civil society, there is a great deal of cultural affinity. There is a community of Spanish expatriates in Qatar holding important positions in business, sports, etc. The Spanish population in Qatar is close to 1% of the country’s total population.
In terms of bilateral economic and trade relations, the total value of trade between Spain and Qatar reached €798 million in 2024, with Spanish exports amounting to €306 million and Spanish imports reaching €498 million. Qatar wasSpain’s seventh largest supplier of natural gas (11.28 TWh) in 2024 and the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas. The presence of Spanish companies in the energy sector is led by TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS, which holds a stake in the North Field expansion project, and IBERDROLA, which has a Research and Development center at the Qatar Science and Technological Park (QSTP) in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energies and environmental protection.
