Meeting with the Spanish Ambassador to Algeria 

On Thursday, March 4, the Exporters and Investors Club, Casa Árabe and Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs are organizing a new session in the program "Meeting with Spanish Ambassadors," this time with Fernando Morán Calvo-Sotelo, Spain’s Ambassador to Algeria.

The event will be held on Thursday, March 4 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. It is free of charge to participate, but you must register in advance here by March 3 at 12:00 p.m. (you must receive confirmation). During the meeting, there will be analysis of the country’s status and the opportunities which it offers Spanish companies, with a time period set aside for debate and questions by those companies attending. 

Algeria is the largest economic power in the Maghreb region, with a GDP of 170billion dollars and over 40 million inhabitants. The hydrocarbons sector is the main force driving Algeria’s economy, generating about one third of GDP. In order to diversify its productive system, local authorities have identified tourism, industry, agriculture, renewable energies and new technologies as priority sectors.

Fernando Morán Calvo-Sotelo has served as second-in-command at the Spanish embassies in Kuwait, Santo Domingo, Rabat, Tel Aviv and Bern. He has been Consul General in Nador and Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. At the ministry, he has held such positions as cabinet director of the State Secretary of International Cooperation and Iberian America, Ambassador on a Special Mission to Africa’s International Organizations and a special delegate for the Campo de Gibraltar area.
