Minister García-Margallo Takes a Work Trip to Algeria

He took part in a Spanish-Algerian economic forum which was also attended by the Director of Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets.

From April 11-13, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation took a working trip to Algiers in order to strengthen bilateral ties and participate in a Spanish-Algerian economic forum.

In Algiers, the Minister met with his Algerian counterpart and made contact with the Minister of Industry and Tourism and the Minister of Crafts. Similarly, he held a meeting with Prime Minister Youcef Yousfi. In their meetings, they discussed various topics in the bilateral relationship, including economic and cultural aspects. Above all, the two Ministers exchanged analyses about the regional and international situation, with a special focus on the crisis in the Middle East Peace Process, Syria, the Sahel region and the Western Sahara.

Spanish-Algerian economic and commercial relations are particularly strong, though there is still great potential for growth. Proof of their momentum was the creation of the Algerian-Spanish Circle of Commerce and Industry in April 2013. It was present at the Business Forum that was held on Saturday, with the opening ceremony presided over by Minister García-Margallo.
