Muslim women with prominent roles at the Mario Vargas Llosa Library

As part of the celebrations for Women’s Day, the Mario Vargas Llosa Library in Madrid is hosting several days of activities aimed at increasing visibility about the struggles of Muslim women. They will taking place on March 7, 16 and 25

The event days will begin with a talk by the authors of the book El feminismo ante el islam (Feminism in the Face of Islam), by Ángeles Ramírez and Laura Mijares, in collaboration with the publishing firm Los Libros de la Catarata. The first event will be held on March 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s Glass Room, with free entry until the event’s capacity is reached.

The next activity about Muslim women will be a conference titled “Muslim Women: A fight to deconstruct the stereotype,” given by writer Bahira Adulatif. It will be taking place on March 16 at 6:30 p.m. This time around, the conference will be given online, and you must sign up for it in advice by following this link.

Last of all, the event schedule includes a film forum session, with the screening of the movie ”Wadjda” by director Haifaa al Mansour. The screening will be presented by expert film blogger Isabel Sánchez. It will be taking place on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Glass Room. Throughout the days of activities, the library will host a center for information on Muslim women.
