Halal market business opportunities in Seville 

Extenda is organizing a day of technical seminars with the participation of Casa Árabe

 on February 26, a seminar on opportunities in the halal market will be held for Andalusian companies. the seminar is organizaed by Extenda, the Andalusian Agency for Promotion Abroad.
The term “halal” refers to all of the practices which are permitted by the Muslim religion. Although the term itself encompasses all types of practices, it is commonly associated with food which is acceptable in accordance with Muslim practices.

It is estimated that nearly 30% of the world population are members of the Muslim religion and that the halal market brings in 2.1 trillion dollars in revenue each year, with international growth at approximately 12%. According to figures from the Halal Institute, the main destination country of these exports is Algeria, followed by Morocco, Saudi Arabia and France.

The seminars will provide information to Andalusian businesses about the key approaches to access Muslim consumer markets, a market niche undergoing constant growth. At the end of the day, the participants will have been given knowledge about the global halal market, the business opportunities provided to Andalusian companies by implementing certain marketing strategies, the certification processes required to form part of the halal chain and examples of business success.

The day will be taking place on Thursday, February 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Extenda’s headquarters in Seville (at Calle Marie Curie, 5, Isla de la Cartuja).

Halal Day Schedule 


10:30 a.m.: The Halal Concept - Isabel Romero, director of the Halal Institute and President of the Islamic Board.
General introduction. Description of the Halal concept and the sectors involved. (10 min)

10:45 a.m.: The global Halal market and the opportunities which it offers to Andalusian companies - Olivia Orozco de la Torre, Casa Árabe’s Training and Economics Coordinator.
Overview of the international Halal industry. Potential of Arab consumer markets, including the Halal industry and the agro-food sector. Food safety. (30 min)

11:15 a.m.: Certification Process - Mohamed Escudero, Director of the Certification and International Relations Department of the Halal Institute.
Certification process description. How to include the global Halal market once certified. (30 min)

11:45 a.m.: EXPOHALAL SPAIN 2015 - Carolina de Funes, Director of Ambar Connect, and María Salvador, Manager of EXPOHALAL SPAIN.
Statement of thanks and presentation of the first Halal Fair in Spain (15 min.)
