Selected by Palestine to represent the country at the Oscars in the category of Best International Film, “Gaza mon amour” was presented in competition at the Orizzonti Section of the Venice Biennale and in the Official Selection of the Toronto Film Festival, where its protagonists Salim Daw (Issa) and Hiam Abass (Siham) captivated the audience with this amusing story inspired by a real event that took place in Gaza in 2014, when a Palestinian fisherman found an ancient Greek statue entangled in his fishing nets that was immediately confiscated.

The Nasser brothers, who broke onto the film scene in 2015 with their debut feature “Dégradé,” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, offering a look at everyday life in Gaza through a simple, tender and funny story, in which hope and the desire to be happy are first and foremost.

PLOT SUMMARY: Gaza, present day. Issa is a 60-year-old fisherman secretly in love with Siham, a woman who works as a dressmaker in the local market. When he grows determined to confess his love to her, he finds an ancient Greek statue of the god Apollo in one of his fishing nets and sneaks it home without suspecting that when this valuable treasure is discovered, his life will become so complicated that it jeopardizes all of his plans. Will he finally manage to declare his love to Siham?
