Plot summary
Abu Shadi is a divorced father and teacher around the age of 60 who lives in Nazareth. When his daughter gets married in a month, he will be living all alone. Shadi, his son, is an architect who returns from Rome after many years abroad to help his father deliver all of the wedding invitations in person, as is the custom in Palestinian tradition (this is the “wajib,” which means “social duty” in Arabic). When they have to spend the day together driving around in the car, it will cause the many tensions existing in their relationship to rise to the surface and create a huge challenge for their very different, fragile lives.

Annemarie Jacir. Filmography
This Palestinian director has written, directed and produced over 17 films. Her short-subject film "Like Twenty Impossibles" (2003) was the first Arab short-subject film in history to form part of the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, and she continued to forge new frontiers when one of her films became a finalist among the foreign films selected for the Oscars.
Her second work was presented in the "Un Certain Regard" section at the Cannes Film Festival and was acclaimed by critics: "Salt of This Sea" (2008) won 18 international awards, including the FIPRESCI Critics Award. It was the first feature film directed by a Palestinian woman and was nominated for best foreign film at the Oscars in 2008.
In addition to other awards, "When I Saw You" won Best Asian Film at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival and Best Arab Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. She was also nominated for the Oscars in 2012. The movie was financed locally, as Palestinian producers create a new trend within Arab cinema. "Wajib" (Wedding Invitation) is her third feature film.
