Ramadan Nights Festival

Casa Árabe organises, in collaboration with Madrid town hall and the Fabricantes de Ideas cultural association, the Festival of Ramadan Nights 2010. Some different and less known cultural and recreational aspects of the religious festivity are spread through music, conferences, cinema shows and children’s activities.The Ramadan Nights Festival will take place in Madrid, from September 2nd to 10th, and will also be displayed in the Canary Islands, where it is organised with the collaboration of Casa Africa for the second year in a row, and in Alicante, where it will count with Casa Mediterráneo’s support.

Kamel el Harrachi’s Concert
Kamel el-Harrachi
Son of the famous composer Dahmane Amrani el Harrachi, he is heir to the Algerian chaabi style, as well as an innovator and a greatly talented artist.

Oum’s Concert

OumThe singer Oum, representative of the new Moroccan musical scene, is aligned with eclecticism due to her soul, funk, disco music, fusion, jazz and rhythm and blues influences, without forgetting her roots.

Islam Geographies
Conference by Jordi Moreras, professor at Universidad Rovira i Virgili de Tarragona, on the different Islam branches practiced nowadays, the cultural differences among the various countries and continents with Muslim communities.

The Long Journey (Le Grand Voyage), by Ismael Ferroukhi (Morocco and France, 2004, 108 min.).

Cartel El gran viajeReda, a young French man with Moroccan origins, is compelled to accompany his father in the pilgrimage to Mecca. All through the 4.800 kilometre journey, which will cross the Balkans, Turkey and various Arab countries, father and son will get to know who they are, their common points and how they are different in other aspects.

Documentaries Ramadan in the city
Casa Árabe shows a range of documentary films made by Al-Jazeera television channel, where it is shown how Ramadan is celebrated in three cities around the world: Istanbul, Cairo and Karlsruhe (Germany), the traditions and lives of their inhabitants during that month. Furthermore, a session of short films on traditional careers during the Ramadan period in Damascus and Cairo will also be shown.

World Puppets and Games
CUCO’s Association organises in the park during the afternoon puppets and games from all over the world. Those taking part will end the activity making a big three dimensional world map.

Azur and Asmar, by Michel Ocelot (Spain, France and Italy, 2006, 99 min.).

Cartel Azur y AsmarAnimation film which constitutes a fable on tolerance. Two children; a Moroccan and a French one, are its main characters. Both of them are brought up in France as if they were brothers, but Azur is the son of the family where Asmar’s mother works as nurse maid. Fate separates them although they will meet again when Azur decides to go on the search of the djins’s fairy.

Boqalas: Algerian oracle tradition

Scenic poem in form of an oracle which combines poetry, interpreting and dancing and that is inspired on the oral tradition and the “boqalas” ritual, poems recited that are part of Algerian women’s traditions and that pass on from generation to generation. Organised by the Centro Hispano Marroquí de la Consejería de Empleo, Mujer e Inmigración (Hispanic-Moroccan Center of Employment, Women and Immigration Regional Department).

Soccer Championship
