Registration is now open for a program in “Diplomacy and European-Arab Relations”
Casa Árabe recommends this program promoted by the University of Granada and the Fundación Euroárabe de Altos Estudios.

GRANADA
“Diplomacy and European-Arab Relations” is currently the only diploma awarded for this specialization in Spain. It provides students with excellent, broad training on international relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
This specialization program will be taught in Granada, at the headquarters of the Fundación Euroárabe, with classes held in the morning, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., from October 18, 2016 through March 14, 2017.
For those students interested in completing an internship at a diplomatic entity or other public institution, Fundación Euroárabe will be able to help with the application process and mediate to facilitate acceptance into such programs.
The registration period will last from July 7 through October 7. Registration is completed at the University of Granada’s “Escuela Internacional de Posgrado.”
The objective of this specialization program is to strengthen the potential for work opportunities among those people who wish to orient their careers towards the world of international organizations, international public functions or the NGOs that work in Europe and the Arab world.
The program provides students with excellent, broad training on international relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Through seven modules, the program includes studies on globalized international society and its legal organization. Also to be analyzed are economic relations, including the international organizations in this arena performing operational activities in the Arab world. The program will also be examining the regional international organizations within the Mediterranean, with a special emphasis on the EU, Arab League, Gulf Cooperation Council and African Union.
This diploma program analyzes both the history and contemporary politics of the Arab and Islamic world, as well as more classical Euro-Mediterranean political cooperation, including the Barcelona Process and the Union for the Mediterranean, as main milestones in its promotion. Also to be examined is the bilateral cooperation of a technical nature between the EU and Arab world, in the fields of trade relations, development aid and matters involving immigration and asylum.
Last of all, the program will study economic governance and the UN’s activities in the region, in particular those matters involving good governance and corruption, as well as conditional aid.
Educational objectives and professional potential:
The diploma program for specialization in “Diplomacy and European-Arab Relations” attempts to provide students with strong training and broad skills focusing on academic, research-related and professional specialization in international relations dealing with the Arab world, with the ultimate goal of providing opportunities for entry into the work force.
The basic objectives of the diploma program include ensuring that students acquire the following skills:
- Ability to handle documentation involved in the practical work of States, international organizations and other international role-players in the Mediterranean region.
- Ability to search, select, analyze and summarize information on international relations and interactions amongst the various role-players in the Mediterranean, in particular the region’s international organizations.
- Acquisition of knowledge in the different focal areas of study in European-Arab relations, in terms of their economic, political, historical and sociological facets.
- Capacity for critical analysis of international processes in the European-Arab realm, above all those involving conflicts, identifying the role-players taking part therein, the various interests involved, the applicable rules and regulations, and the various potential developments and outcomes.
Course modules:
- International society: composition, structure and legal system.
- International Economic Relations: International Economics, International Economic Organizations, Economy of the Arab World.
- International Organizations in the Mediterranean: EU, Arab League, Gulf Cooperation Council, African Union.
- Sociology of the Arab World and the Alliance of Civilizations: Islam and Politics in the Arab World, North-South Political Relations.
- EU-Arab World Cooperation: Trade Relations, Official Development Aid, Immigration and Asylum.
- Economic Governance and UN Action: Good governance and corruption, World Bank and IMF activities, development cooperation and conditional aid.
- Euro-Mediterranean Political Cooperation: The Barcelona Process, political cooperation, cooperation in the field of security.
- Final Project.
Requirements for admission:
- University degree: Spanish degree of “licenciatura,” “diplomatura” or equivalent, and/or an official Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree.
- Credits: 30 ECT credits divided into 26 credits in theoretical classes and practicums. Includes the completion of a Final Project which accounts for 4 ECT credits.
