Second edition of the Cañada Real “16 kms” Film Festival

The event will be held from September 15 to 24, with screening at the Matadero’s Cineteca and several sites spanning 16 kilometers of space in the Cañada Real area of Madrid.

This festival is an attempt to provide a different view of the impoverished suburbs and peripheries, as well as giving people from those parts of Madrid an opportunity to see films. A selection of short-subject films will be shown that were made by children and youths from peripheral areas where vulnerable population groups live, in both Spain and other countries.

The festival will also include a section with socially oriented cinema and another with films from Morocco, the guest country. Along with these film screenings, debates will be held in an attempt to inspire dialogue about subjects like the right to housing, the right to a city and culture, and their role in social transformation.
