SEEA Award of 2018 for New Researchers and the Twenty-fifth Symposium of the Spanish Society of Arab Studies (SEEA)

For yet another year, Casa Árabe and the SEEA are sponsoring these awards, which are given as part of the gathering held from November 2 to 4 at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Cordoba.

On Saturday, November 3, Javier Rosón, Casa Árabe’s Coordinator in Cordoba, will be presiding over the presentation of the research projects by the selected finalists:

- A. B. Cano (U. Granada): “Treatment and Living Conditions of Christian Captives in the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada: Between theory and practice.”
- A. Contreras Rey (U. Sevilla): “The Challenge of Teaching Modern Arabic in Spain: Analysis of the existing manuals intended for Spanish-speakers.”
- S. El Herch (U. Córdoba): “Study on the Culinary Terminology Present in Texts from Tenth-century Al-Andalus: Cordoba Caliphate.”

As for the Symposium, it will include five plenary sessions: Arab-Islamic Heritage in Cordoba, Homage to Nizar Qabbani, SEEA Awards for New Researchers, The Enduring Memory of the Arab Population: Palestine, and the Antonio Gala and Jaime Sánchez Ratia Awards Ceremony. Free entry to the sessions until the event’s capacity is reached.

On November 3, 2018 there will also be a concert by the music group Zéjel Tres Culturas,  headed by singer Iman Kandoussi and sponsored by the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation. This will be held in one of Casa Árabe’s courtyards (at Calle Samuel de los Santos Gener), with free entry until its capacity is reached.

ABOUT THE SEEA

The Spanish Arab Studies Society is a scientific association created in 1993. It brings together professors and researchers interested in the development, promotion and dissemination of Arab studies in Spain. Its main objectives include: the creation of a network of specialized information among its members; scientific cooperation; the organization of congresses, meetings and colloquiums; support for the publishing of specific works and the promotion of training initiatives for young Arabists.
