Seventh edition of the Another WayFilm Festival
Casa Árabe is collaborating with this festival on sustainable progress. It will be held at different venues in Madrid and online until October 28, with the slogan “Let’s unite our hopes.”

A total of 32 titles will be shown, including documentaries, fictional films and short-subject films on topics including climate change and climate justice, the decrease in biodiversity and the link between human beings and other species. The films come from countries like Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, United States, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and China. Of those selected, 17 documentaries will be competing: 11 in the Official Section and six in the “Impact” Section.
The opening film of this year’s edition will be Dear Future Children, directed by German filmmaker Franz Böhm, who has won audience awards at prestigious festivals such as Hot Docs, Max Ophüls Preis and the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights. In the film, the director follows the struggle of three young activists working to stop injustices in different parts of the world: Hong Kong, Chile and Uganda. New this time around, thanks to our collaboration with Greenpeace, the opening session will be shown simultaneously in ten Spanish cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Valladolid, Pamplona, Bilbao, Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, Toledo and Vigo).
Live screenings will be held at the following venues: Cineteca Madrid, Cines Golem Madrid, Filmoteca Española, Sala Equis, Institut français de Madrid and mk2 Cine Paz, in Madrid, as well as on the Filmin streaming platform and the festival’s online platform.
The jury for this seventh edition will be made up of Gimena Arensburg, programming director of the documentary television channel Odisea; Pucho, the vocalist of Vetusta Morla, and Cristina Aparicio, a journalist at the well-known film magazine Caimán.
The 11 documentaries competing in the Official Section are: Dear Future Children, Becoming Cousteau, How to Kill a Cloud, The Tiger Mafia, School of Hope, The Bubble, The Pink Indian Against The Invisible Beast, Animal, Arica, Panteras and The Edge of Existence. Seven of them are being shown for the first time in Spain. Plus, another six documentaries will be screened as part of the “Impact” Section: Bird Island, The Story of Plastic, Bajo fuego (Under Fire), The People vs. Agent Orange, Lords of Water and Rift Finfinnee.
As part of its collaboration with the festival, Casa Árabe has been in charge of subtitling the Moroccan film “School of Hope,” by Mohamed El Aboudi. School of Hope, by Mohamed El Aboudi. The film was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Best International Feature Film at Hot Doc 2021 and will also be shown on a later date at Casa Árabe.
The festival’s offerings will be rounded off with two non-competitive sections (named “Produced in Green” and “Origins”) and the holding of eight simultaneous activities including training for committed filmmakers, workshops for children, experiential and collaborative workshops, screenings for children and the SANNAS Harvests.
The Another Way Film Festival is aligned with three of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) set by the UN in the 2030 Agenda: SDG 12 (ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns), SDG 13 (taking urgent action to fight climate change and its impacts) and SDG 17 (strengthening the means for implementing and revitalizing global partnership for sustainable development).
