Spain’s Foreign Minister González Laya extends an Iftar invitation to Arab ambassadors

Arancha González Laya, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, and the president of the Casa Árabe consortium, offered a meal to break the month of Ramadan fast last April 22 in Madrid.

Alsaidi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, Majid Al-Suwaidi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Boubacar Kane, Ambassador of Mauritania, Toufik Milat, Ambassador of Algeria, Abdalla Al-Hamar, Ambassador of Qatar, Walid B D Abuabdalla, Ambassador of Libya, Fatma Omrani Chargui, Ambassador of Tunisia, Bachar Khalil Yaghi, Ambassador of the Arab League, Ehab Alnajjar, Advising Minister and Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Fahd Albusaidy, Chargé d’Affaires of the Sultanate of Oman, Mohammed Ali Saleh Maudha, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Yemen, Hussam Eldeen Eltayeb, the Interim Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sudan, and Imad Mohammed Mirza Mirza, advisor and deputy chief of the Embassy of Iraq.

Also taking part in the event were the State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Cristina Gallach, the State Secretary for España Global, Manuel Muñiz, the Director General of Foreign Policy and Security, Fidel Sendagorta, the Director General for the Maghreb, Mediterranean and Middle East, Eva Martínez, and the General Director of Casa Árabe, Pedro Martínez-Avial.

Iftar is the dinner with which Muslim worshippers break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan. It is normally held communally and takes place right after sunset. In accordance with tradition, the first food eaten to break the fast is a date.
