On September 4, 2014, Casa Árabe took part in the International Workshop on good relations organized by Finland’s Ministry of the Interior in the city of Helsinki, co-financed by the European Union Program for Fundamental Rights and Citizenship.
Officially opened by the Minister of the Interior, Päivi Räsänen, and by the High Commissioner of the OSCE for National Minorities, Astrid Thors, the day began by bringing up a framework for the measurement of “good relations” within the contexts of Finland, Sweden and Britain.
It was then followed by a discussion regarding the policy of “good relations” as an instrument for fighting xenophobia and other forms of intolerance. The workshop also offered a series of tools and methods for measuring good relations, with case studies on Sweden and Finland.
The gathering was especially aimed at non-governmental organizations, authorities, researchers and decision-makers. Amongst the countries represented were Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Northern Ireland, Poland, Romania, the United Kingdom and Sweden, as well as the host country, Finland.
