MADRID
The publication includes the works which artist Rachid Koraïchi presented at the exhibition This Long Journey into Your Gaze, organized by Casa Árabe at its headquartersin Madrid and Cordoba in the months of March through July of 2019.

The Arabic semiotics and graphic gestures in Koraïchi’s work evoke figurative imagery and messages intended for a universal audience. His work has been influenced by an enduring attraction towards all types of symbols, both real and imaginary. Starting out on the basis of the complex beauty of Arabic calligraphy, his work is made up of symbols, hieroglyphics and figures taken from other languages and cultures, as well. The works displayed in the exhibition, which include ceramics, steel sculptures, bronze pieces, alabaster slabs and installations, were fully produced at the Factum Arte studios in Madrid and at ceramics studios in Barcelona, two cities where the artist has worked intensively in recent years. The outcome is a reflection of the fascinating universe of signs and graphic symbols which characterize Koraïchi’s work, garnering him major international acknowledgment.

The book is a bilingual Spanish/English edition and includes over eighty images which illustrate both the series of works on display at Casa Árabe and the processes through which these pieces were created in the studio. The book includes texts by Ana Martínez de Aguilar (former director of the MNCA Reina Sofía and Museo Esteban Vicente), Adam Lowe (director of Factum Arte) and an interview by Nuria Medina, in which the artist discusses his origins and cultural influences, as well as the work he has undertaken with craftsmen in various trades.

After spending several months at the Madrid headquarters, the exhibition can now be seen at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Cordoba from June 5 through July 19, 2019.
