The exhibition takes us on a historical and emotional journey through Spanish exile in North Africa, providing the opportunity to recover memories, deepen understanding and spread knowledge about one of the least known groups of exiles: that of Spanish Republicans in the Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria) from 1939 to 1962.

The original project was an initiative by Casa Árabe and the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, curated by José Miguel Sanacreu Soler and Juan Valbuena. It remained on view at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid and Cordoba throughout 2024 and 2025.

It has now arrived in Tunis thanks to the Cervantes Institute in Tunis, the Spanish Embassy and the City Council of Tunis, which is providing the Sainte-Croix municipal cultural space (Jemaâ Ez-Zitouna St., 2nd floor, Medina of Tunis), where it will be open to the public from June 19 to July 15, every Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 712:30 p.m. Entry is free of charge.
