The fair will be opened by the Ambassador of Tunisia, Wacef Chiha, along with local authorities and representatives. Five publishing firms and two bookstores will be participating as exhibitors, with three conferences held: “The Reform by the Almohads of Al-Andalus: Religion, art and propaganda” by Belén Cuenca Abellán; “The Arab Kasbah of Badajoz” by José Manuel Márquez Gallardo, and “Spanish-Arab Co-existence” by Imam Adel Najjar. Twelve books will be presented, two newly appearing bilingual poem books (Spanish/Arabic) published in conjunction with CIHAR. In addition to this, a painting by artist Clara Báez Merino will be given away by drawing to one of the people who buys the book.
The Fair is coinciding with the holding of the medieval festival “Almossassa,” at which the city of Badajoz commemorates its founding by the Emir of Al-Andalus, Ibn Marwan.
It will be open on Saturday, September 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sunday, September 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Fair was organized by the Spanish-Arab Intercultural Circle (CIHAR), with the cooperation of the Autonomous Regional Government of Extremadura, which has allowed the Provincial Archeological Museum of Badajoz to be used for the event. It has also been aided by the cooperation of the MIGAS Association of Badajoz, with the logistical support of the Provincial Government Office and the Municipal Government of Badajoz.
