MADRID
This course is intended for anyone interested in acquiring a better understanding of the new situation arising in Europe today, with a large and increasing population of Muslims. What sort of attitude can a Christian expect of Muslims? And what can they expect from Christians? Fear, indifference, simple-mindedness... Are these the only patterns of behavior that we can choose from in our response to people of the Islamic religion? It is increasingly important to learn about the roots of Islam, traditional responses by the Church and the current state of the matter in order to answer such questions.

After a brief introductory presentation on Islamic culture, the course will review Muslim religious texts, offering a viewpoint of their own on human dignity while providing inspiration for the Islamic social system, along with the main ideological schools of thought giving shape to today’s Islam. Moreover, a historical overview of Arab Christianity will be provided, as a pioneering example of dialogue and debate with Islam, and we will discuss the relationship between the two religions, and factors which bring them closer together and pull them apart.

The time period to sign up for the course will last throughout the month of September.

It will be held over a period of four weeks:
Week one: November 25-29, 2019
Week two: January 27-31, 2020
Week three: March 30-April 2, 2020
Week four: May 25-29, 2020
