The second Alhama of Tulaytula: the Salvador Mosque
On Wednesday, November 20, the Spanish-Arabic Intercultural Circle (CIHAR) is organizing this conference and colloquium on Andalusian archeology and art, to be given by Julián García Sánchez de Pedro. The event will be taking place at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid.

An archeologist and researching scientist with 32 years of experience, his professional life has been spent in Toledo on projects which include excavations of the Church of El Salvador in the Vega Baja (where the Visigoth city is location) and those on Calle de la Plata, where an interesting Roman statue appeared. With a bachelor’s degree in Geography and History from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, he has spent his professional life as an archeologist in Toledo, where, spanning 32 years of experience, he has taken part in countless excavations on plots of land and in buildings throughout the city. These include the restoration of the tower of the Church of San Román, the rehabilitation of the Church of San Vicente, excavations of the Church of El Salvador, works in the area surrounding the Vega Baja and the excavations carried out in 2011 on Calle de la Plata, where the Roman toga-bearing statue exhibited in Patio de Covarrubias appeared, the result of which can be viewed at the Museum of Santa Cruz. He combines his passion for work in the field with work as an educator, having taught in the Saramago 50Plus Program at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. With a love for Toledo’s heritage, both Roman and Islamic, he has had numerous articles published and has participated in many congresses and conferences on the subject.
