MADRID
This year’s edition will include the pictorial exhibition on Arabic calligraphy titled “Human Rights in Islam,” as well as exhibitors from publishing firms, bookstores and institutions that will be offering visitors a wide variety of books related with Spanish-Arab and Al-Andalus culture. There will be two exhibitions in a “roll-up” format, one devoted to Arabic calligraphy and another on the first pilot in History, a man from Al-Andalus born in Ronda in the ninth century, Abbas Ibn Firnas, both by Palestinian artist Imad Abu Shtayyah.
Amongst the cultural activities, there will be book presentations, round table discussions and conferences (see schedule). The fair will place a special focus on Arab and Islamic Madrid with a debate in which a drawing will be held to give away a free guided tour of Arab Madrid, an initiative by CIHAR with the cooperation of the Center for Studies on Islamic Madrid and madridarabe.es.
The cultural offerings will be rounded off with the successful play “Mare nostrum. Finis somnia vestra” by theatrical director Marco Magoa, which has already premiered in other cities in Spain, the Arab world and New York; and the dance and music show “The Nights of Al-Andalus” (Layali alandalus). In both cases, entry will be free of charge until the event’s capacity is reached.
On the last date when the fair comes to an end (Sunday, September 30), there will be a random selection from among all those who have purchased books and are attending the drawing to give away a mosaic of engravings from Al-Andalus by artist Rojas Al Andalusí.
