Theater for Children in Madrid

ALL TICKETS SOLD On Sunday, February 24th, Casa Árabe will be presenting the show Ribat in Madrid, a theatrical performance for children of ages two and older, put on by the group Tyl Tyl.

February 07, 2013
Ribat tells the story of a three-year-old boy who lives with his parents in a small house from which he can see the desert on one side and the sea on the other. His father gets up one morning, tells him he is going to work very far away, gives him a bag of dates and explains to him, “You will eat one each day, and before you are finished, I will have returned.” He gives him a big hug and leaves.

This is how a work designed to play out as an event for the senses begins. Actress Pury Estalayo, using objects, sounds and the space they have created, and Sudanese musician Wafir Shaihkeddin Gibril, adding sounds from the oud, daff, nai and chanting, recreate an atmosphere of water and sand, including silences which are packed with sensory experiences. The staging, designed by Walter Canevaro, creates a perspective of the landscape’s form and color with amazing artistic quality. At the end, the audience is given a surprise by the performers. In this simple narrative, Tyl Tyl tells us about the investigation of the narrator and the figure of the child (Ribat), who creates a world despite the everyday difficulties. And it is that creation which allows him to keep moving forward in life.

On the occasion of this theatrical performance, Casa Árabe will be opening the doors of its Media Library and making available its well-stocked collection of children’s literature to the public. Likewise, you may access the children’s and youth collection, which includes illustrated children’s books so that the little ones can have fun and learn all at the same time.

The performance will be held in the Hiwar Room of Casa Árabe in Madrid (at Calle Alcalá, 62), located in the basement across from the Media Library. Two performances will be held on Sunday, February 24, one at 12:30 p.m. and another at 5:30 in the afternoon. Tickets may be purchased through this link. ALL TICKETS SOLD FOR BOTH PERFORNANCES If on the day of the performance any tickets are left, they will be sold at the ticket window as of one hour before each performance. You must demonstrate any of these statuses by showing the proper document to get the discount. Discounts may not be used cumulatively. Free entry for children under 2 years old.
