GRANADA
On Monday, February 9, the official opening of the exhibition ''Visions of the Alhambra: New Entrance and Visitors'' Center at the Alhambra by Álvaro Siza Vieira & Juan Domingo Santos” is taking place.
This exhibition presents the project “New Alhambra Gateway,” designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, along with Spanish architect Juan Domingo Santos, who won the international contest of ideas for the New Entrance Pavilion and Visitors’ Center at the Alhambra in 2010. Being one of the most eminent UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Alhambra is an example of respect for diversity, pluralism and the co-existence of the Islamic and Christian cultures.
In addition to the official opening, on February 9 there is a colloquium titled “Reflections and Viewpoints on the Alhambra Atrium,” to be held at 5:45 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Palacio de Carlos V.
The exhibition and catalogue were made possible thanks to a significant contribution by the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees. The exhibition was conceived with the cooperation of the Aga Khan Museum (Toronto) and the Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein). Additional support for the production and holding of the original exhibition in Berlin was provided by Eternit and Zumtobel, as well as the collaborating partners at Aedes Architecture Forum: Axor, Carpet Concept and Zumtobel.
“Visions of the Alhambra” will be presented at the National Museum of Architecture and Design in Oslo from May 4-17, 2015, and at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto from July 23, 2016 through January 8, 2017.
The exhibition was produced by the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Regional Government of Andalusia, Aedes, the Aga Khan Museum and Vitra Design Museum.
The opening event is taking place on February 9 at 12:00 p.m. in the Palacio de Carlos V (Royal Crypt of the Alhambra, s/n), and as of that time it can be visited from Monday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (from February 9 to March 14), and from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. (from March 15 to April 19).
