During the meeting, held on Friday, June 5, Ambassador Al Sabah and the Casa Árabe’s General Director had the opportunity to share views on the recent situation in Kuwait.

They also discussed the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy, in which Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al Sabah took part as a special envoy from the State of Kuwait. Under the theme “Building Peace and Democracy,” the conference brought together representatives from some 60 foreign ministries in different regions of the world in the Spanish capital on June 2 and 3, as well as top officials from the United Nations, including the Executive Director of UN Women and the UN Population Fund, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, and the organization’s Deputy Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs. Furthermore, over 140 civil society organizations, feminist movements and women’s and human rights organizations from around the world took part.

The conference’s organization is a joint effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is on the whole responsible for implementing Spain’s Feminist Foreign Policy, one of the priorities of the 2025–2028 Foreign Action Strategy. Since the conference’s central theme is gender equality as a fundamental pillar for strengthening democracy and building peace, the program will include seven plenary sessions and ten parallel sessions.

These sessions addressed feminist foreign policy from various perspectives, including structural barriers to women’s leadership in political institutions, the role of women in mediation and the preservation of peace and security, the global feminization of care work, and the need to reform development financing systems from a gender perspective.

As part of this conference, Casa Árabe hosted one of the workshops at its Madrid headquarters, on the role of "African Women in Peace Processes.” The workshop was opened by Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, whose opening remarks can be viewed in this video:
