Visit by Mauritania’s Minister of Culture to Casa Árabe 

Mauritania’s Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, Houssein Meddou, visited our institution’s headquarters in Madrid, where he was welcomed by its General Director, diplomat Miguel Moro Aguilar.

Mauritania’s Minister of Culture, Houssein Meddou, visited Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid on July 16. Meddou, who is now in Spain for the Ministerial Conference on Palestinian Culture, visited Casa Árabe along with Mauritania’s Ambassador to Spain, Zeineb Ely Salem. Together, they spoke with Casa Árabe’s director about the institution’s role as a bridge for relations between Spain and Arab countries, as well as about upcoming initiatives by the Ministry of Culture and the Mauritanian Embassy to showcase various forms of Mauritanian art in our country. 

In addition to signing the institution’s guest book, Minister Meddou had the opportunity to view the exhibitions currently on display at Casa Árabe’s Aguirre Schools headquarters: “Time Together,” a photography exhibition organized in order to mark the institution’s twentieth anniversary, taking a look back at two decades of diplomatic, political, economic and cultural relations between Spain and Arab countries; and “Driving Through Palestine.” 

Meddou’s visit comes just two days after that of Libya’s Minister of Culture, Salem Al-Alem, who came to Casa Árabe last Tuesday during his first official stop in Spain, in a clear show of support for the institution.
