Visit by representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq to Spain 

The delegation, led by Darawan Hamid Ghafar, representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government–Iraq in Spain, and Salar Mahmood Murad Ali Al Tabalani, director of the Foreign Relations Center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), was received by Casa Árabe’s General Director, Miguel Moro Aguilar.  

In addition to the Darawan Hamid Ghafar, the Representative in Spain of the Regional Government of Kurdistan, Iraq, and Salar Mahmood Murad Ali Al Tabalani, director of the Foreign Relations Center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and former member of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, also present at the meeting were Azhi Yassin Rasul, a member of the Representative’s Cabinet, and Ali Kadhim Adhab, Main Secretary of the Embassy of Iraq in Spain.

Along with the director of Casa Árabe and the institution’s cultural coordinator, Karim Hauser, the delegation reviewed the complex current geopolitical situation in the Middle East, as well as the work carried out by the organization over the past two decades, also exploring the potential for future forms of cooperation to promote awareness of the reality of Iraqi Kurdistan under the leadership of its current representative, Darawan Hamid Ghafar.

Casa Árabe and the Representative Office in Spain of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq have collaborated on several occasions over the past two decades, initially exploring business opportunities in Kurdistan and later raising awareness about the humanitarian crisis endured by the region and the tragedy of the Yazidi people, with the organization of the premiere in Spain of the film Peyakari DII, by director, Shawan Attof, and a concert by the folk music group Arami Roh to mark the celebration of Newroz.

The Office of Representation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Spain is a delegation under the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government that is responsible for managing institutional, commercial, academic and cultural affairs in Spain pertaining to this important Iraqi autonomous region, under the auspices of the Iraqi Embassy in Madrid.
