MADRID
During the meeting, Miguel Moro Aguilar informed Mohamed Ali Hassan about the work which Casa Árabe performs and its main areas of activity. Together, they reviewed current geopolitical developments and had the opportunity to visit the exhibitions on display at the institution’s Madrid headquarters: “Time Together” and “Driving in Palestine.”

The Republic of Djibouti is a small but geostrategically important country located in the Horn of Africa. It borders Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia, and its coasts are bathed by the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Its geographic position makes it majorly important, as a result of its location along major global trade routes. The country’s territory, famous for its extreme volcanic landscapes and Lake Assal, supports an economy based primarily on port services, logistics and international trade, thanks to its status as a free trade zone and a maritime corridor for Ethiopia.

Its location on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is the reason why it hosts international military bases for maritime patrols and the fight against terrorism and piracy in international waters. In this regard, the cooperation of Djibouti’s authorities has been invaluable in ensuring the success of the mission carried out by Spain’s Armed Forces, as part of the international effort to combat piracy in the Indian Ocean, known as EUNAVFOR ATALANTA.
