Wallada bint al-Almustakfi Prize 

The call for entries to participate in this initiative by the Spanish-Arab Cultural Circle (CIHAR), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Arab League in Madrid, will remain open until September 30.

The purpose of the contest is to promote knowledge and perfection of the Arabic language by reading Spanish classics translated into Arabic, among undergraduate, double degree and graduate students at schools and in departments at public and private universities in Spain devoted to the study of Arabic Philology, Arabic Language and Culture and Translation and Interpretation where Arabic is taught as a B, C or D language.

The work used in this first edition of the contest is “La casa de Bernarda Alba,” by Federico García Lorca. Those students who wish to participate must submit a video lasting less than 5 minutes with a sample of their reading, as well as the selected excerpt from the play (among those provided by the organization on its website).

The call for entries will last from July 1 to September 30. The diplomas will be awarded on December 18, 2021 (Arabic Language Day) at a location and time yet to be determined. The award rules and all of the related information can be found at https://wallada.cihispanoarabe.org

The award is part of CIHAR’s initiative “2021, Year of the Arabic Language.”
