Women’s Week at Casa Árabe 

This year, Casa Árabe will be celebrating Women’s Day with five activities from March 3 through 11, in order to increase the visibility of women’s leadership in the Arab world.

The activities are as follows:

Monday, March 2 (Casa Árabe in Cordoba)
7:30 p.m. Round table discussion on “The role of women in medieval archeology in Cordoba,”  with the cooperation of the Friends of Medina Azahara Association, and the participation of María del Camino Fuertes Santos, coordinator of the Andalusian Network of Cultural Enclaves in Cordoba and Munigua (Seville), María Dolores Baena Alcántara, Director of the Cordoba Archeology Museum, and Ana Zamorano, an archeologist.

Wednesday, March 4 (at Casa Árabe in Madrid)
6:00 p.m. An event held with Saudi film director Haifaa Al-Mansour and Celia de Anca, Director of the Center for Diversity in Global Management at IE. Haifa Al-Mansour is visiting Spain for the launch of her movie “The Perfect Candidate,” the main character of which is a female Saudi doctor who decides to run for the municipal elections in her town. (Location: Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid) (in English, with translation).
7:00 p.m. Conference on Muslim women and Islam in Europe, given by sociologist Narzanin Massoumi.  Within the framework of the program Aula Árabe Universitaria. Location:Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid (in English, with simultaneous translation into Spanish).

Friday, March 6 (at Casa Árabe in Madrid)
7:30 p.m. Screening of the film “Maryam,” directed by Mohammed Al Hammadi, as part of the series we have devoted to films from the United Arab Emirates The movie tells the story of a woman who stands up to social norms and tradition when she decides to leave for New York to study the dramatic arts. The film will be shown in the original language version with subtitles in Spanish. (Location: Casa Árabe Auditorium, Madrid).

Wednesday, March 11 (at Casa Árabe in Madrid)
7:00 p.m. Conference “Beyond the Patriarchy: Gender, taboos and changes in communities,” which forms part of the conference series “What Do Muslim Youths Say?”. This series of events consists of seven conferences to be held from now until the month of June. They have been organized by Casa Árabe in conjunction with the Junta Islámica and the Pluralism and Co-existence Foundation. (Casa Árabe Auditorium, Madrid).
