World Arabic Language Day

On the event of this celebration, on Tuesday December 18th, the Arab Diplomatic Ladies Association and Casa Árabe organized a cultural soiree. It was named ‘Alcantara: Celebrating Arabic Language in Spain’ and was inaugurated at 18 o’clock by Eduardo López Busquets, director general of Casa Árabe, and Amal Mourad, president of the Association.

Afterwards, Husein Mansour, director of the Cordoba channel, gave a speech on the Arabic Language in Spain. And poetry time followed, Rabeea Ben Ahmad and Nadia Samara read Andalusian poems both in Arabic and Spanish, and there was a lecture, ‘Andalusian female poets’, given by Mahmud Sobh, Emeritus Professor by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

The day came to an end with the two interventions. The first on the Arabic inscriptions in Al-Andalus Art, by Susana Calvo Capilla, full time professor by the UCM; and the second on Arabic Language: Identity, Unity and Bond, by the journalist Mohamed Abdelkefi.

All the events took place at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62) and finished by 20.00. Entrance was free, but subjected to space availability.
