Casa Árabe is organizing a full schedule of activities to highlight the
power of football as a tool for creating more inclusive societies. The
initiative includes exhibitions, films, gatherings, book presentations,
and more.Check out all of the information here.
The “Football for Hope” program is an initiative which uses the universal language of sports to give Spanish society a closer look at the reality of the Arab world. Under the umbrella of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first to be held in an Arab nation, the program’s activities include the following:
- “Football for Hope” exhibition. A photography project by Ofelia de Pablo and Javier Zurita for Casa Árabe that deals with the transformational power of football among disadvantaged groups and in the fight for gender equality. You can see it at the headquarters in Madrid (as of October 6 and until February 5, 2023), and in Cordoba (as of October 14 and until January 20, 2023.
- Cinema series: “Women on the Pitch.” Screenings of three documentaries by teams from Libya, Jordan and Morocco, in order to show the reality of women’s soccer in Arab countries as an event that goes beyond mere athletics, becoming a tool for empowerment and social change. At Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid and Cordoba, as of October 7, each Friday.
- Presentation and discussion with “Los Cervantinos.”
Tuesday, October 11 at the Cervantes Institute in Madrid. A gathering at which writers and journalists who form part of the team known as “Los Cervantinos” will be reading an excerpt from a work that discusses football and encourages football fans to read. Presented by: Luis García Montero, Director of the Cervantes Institute. The participants who will be performing the readings are Miguel Aguilar, an editor; Nuria Labari, a writer and journalist; Enrique Ballester, a writer and journalist; Emilio Sánchez Mediavilla, an editor and writer; Alex Prada, writer.
- Meeting: “Football is a girl’s Game” In Madrid on Thursday, October 13.
A round table discussion among women football players, in which their careers, the progress and challenges of women’s soccer and success stories will be discussed. With the participation of: Nouf Faleh Al Anzi, from the team C.D. Leganés, Yasmin Mrabet, from the club F.C.Levante Las Planas, and Honey Taljieh, former captain of the Palestinian national team and now responsible for Corporate Communications at FIFA.
- Presentation of the book “Qatar, Pearl of the Gulf”. In Madrid on Tuesday, October 18.
- “Football for Hope” exhibition. Presentation of the book and colloquium with the cooperation of the publishing firm Península, which forms part of the Planeta Group. Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio and Ignacio Gutiérrez de Terán, two well-known experts on the Middle East, will be presenting this documented study on the political, social and economic direction taken by the small country since it became independent. Moderated by journalist Ángeles Espinosa.
- Participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair (Germany). Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October. Casa Árabe's Director General, Irene Lozano, will be taking part in the meetings "Literature and Football (Saturday 22nd) and "Telling the story of football in times of VAR and Qatar? In addition, we collaborate in the organisation of the football match between "La Cervantina" and the German team of writers and publishers attending the Fair.
- Exhibition "Baghdad, a modern place (1956-1978). Latif al Ani". From 4 November in Madrid.
This is a twinning with the Doha Museum of Islamic Art's exhibition "Baghdad: Eye's Delight". Curated by the Spanish architect Pedro Azara with funds from the collection of the Arab Image Foundation of Beirut and on loan from La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona.
- Exhibition "Baghdad, a modern place (1956-1978). Latif al Ani". From 4 November in Madrid.

- "On the Road to the World Cup" trading cards. Casa Árabe has created a collection of trading cards for you to get to know some of the main Arab players or players of Arab origin, both current and historical. Collect them!
- Football for Hope: the challenge. Saturday, November 19, Plaza de Colón (Madrid).
LaLiga and Casa Árabe present a space for recreational and sports activities where fans will be able to carry out all kinds of free activities related to soccer.
- "Arab Screen" Space. We invite you to watch some of the soccer matches of the Arab teams in the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. On Sunday, November 27, at 2:00 pm, Morocco - Belgium. On Wednesday, November 30, at 16:00h, Tunisia - France, and at 20:00h, Saudi Arabia - Mexico. Register to attend!
- Presentation of the new improved edition of the "Spanish - Arabic football dictionary". In collaboration with the Cervantes Institute, and LaLiga. It will be on Thursday, December 1 at 10:30 am in Madrid.
- Exhibition and workshop on freestyle football in Cordoba. Wednesday, November 30, Plaza de la Corredera (Córdoba). With Paloma Pujol and Jaime Artebeta, "Jimmy", attendees will enjoy a freestyle soccer exhibition and participate in a workshop to learn different "tricks" with the ball. Sign up!
- Football for Hope: the challenge. Saturday, November 19, Plaza de Colón (Madrid).

This new edition, revised and improved, provides a complete soccer vocabulary in both languages, as well as additional vocabulary for social interaction in everyday situations.
- Business day "Culture, mobility and sport: from Spain to the Gulf". Tuesday, December 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Casa Árabe's headquarters in Cordoba. The conference will examine the value of sports as a vector for development and an economic engine, as well as a promoter of exchanges between societies and cultures.
