Casa Árabe and the publishing house Nueva Estrella are presenting this fantasy novel. Attended by the author, Saïd Alami, and Leonor Merino, it will be taking place on November 23 in Madrid.
Princess Amarzad, who is 14 years old, is given superhuman powers from the Galactic Brotherhood of Magicians, located on the planet Kabir. Flor the Magician, one of the Brotherhood’s most prominent members and supreme wizard of the planet Earth, is Amarzad’s friend and protector. The princess’ father, Nuriddin, Sultan of Qanunistan, faces the threat of an imminent invasion by the armies of the alliance made up of three powerful kingdoms neighboring his own. A young warrior in the service of the sultan comes onto the scene, as the battle between magicians and sorcerers heats up. Nuriddin, his family and his palace suffer successive and mysterious attacks and onslaughts. While all this goes on, three young warriors, all mutual foes, fight over the love of the princess.
Saïd Alami is a journalist, writer, poet and Palestinian-Spanish translator residing in Spain since the mid-sixties. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and joined Radio Nacional de España, where he worked he retired. He has had his poems, articles and stories in Arabic published since 1965. He authored the poetic trilogy in Arabic titled”Spikes of Life,” “Spikes of Dew” and “Spikes of Sparks.” He also wrote two collections of short stories in Arabic:”The Assembly” and “Mariam.” In the nineties, he began to publish poetry in Spanish, having contributed to several anthologies, as well as presenting them at many recitals.
Leonor Merino holds a PhD from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. A professor and scholarship recipient at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Mohamed V University in Rabat, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, and the Sorbonne and Paris-Nord Universities in Paris, her most notable works include: Encrucijada de Literaturas Magrebíes (Crossroads for Maghrebi Literatures), La mujer y el lenguaje de su cuerpo (Women and Their Body Language) and Voces literarias del Magreb (Literary Voices from the Maghreb), as well as others. She is an anthologist and translator of Maghrebi writers, such as Driss Chraïbi, Tahar Bekri, Rachid Boudjedra and Ouidad Ben Moussa, and the director of the “Wallāda Poetry Collection” published by the Diwan publishing house.
