“Algarabía” Concert as Part of the White Night of Flamenco

June 21, 2014

The concert creates a dialogue between the different genres of Arab music and the rhythms of flamenco.

“Algarabía” is the final brushstroke placed on the project for the Casa Árabe Arab-Flamenco Music School. The School has brought together young artists from different musical environments in Cordoba, so that they can share a period of training and become familiar with the foundations of the two musical systems, exploring the ways in which they approach one another. “Algarabía” introduces an original repertoire which will increase awareness about the relationship between Arab music and flamenco, showing new ways to combine them in fusions. The concert creates a dialogue between the different genres of Arab music and the rhythms of flamenco, while opening up new styles such as samais with soleares, tango-longas, yuruk rhythms with fandangos, alegrías with maqamat, and even Sufi music with flamenco tonás.

The performance will be taking place in the Plaza de Abades de Córdoba at 2:30 a.m., early in the morning between Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22. Free entrance.
