How do you feed your family when you live in an occupied territory and the laws prohibit foraging for the food that grows wild in the countryside? This is the starting point in Foragers, the film by Jumana Manna that we will be screening on Sunday, November 23, as part of the Palestinian Film Festival, in Cordoba.
Foragers (Jumana Manna, 2022, 65 minutes).
How do you feed your family when you live in an occupied territory and the laws prohibit foraging for the food that grows wild in the countryside? This is the drama experienced by a Palestinian community that secretly ventures into the countryside every day, evading Israeli security forces. Foragers captures the love, joy and knowledge inherited in traditions along with their resistance to prohibitive laws. By reframing the terms and limitations of conservation, the film raises questions about the politics of extinction: in other words, who determines what becomes extinct and what continues to live?
The screening will be followed by a film colloquium moderated by Pilar Monsell.
