Partition (Diana Allan, 2025, 61 minutes)
Partition mixes archival images of Palestine’s occupation by the British with audio recordings of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, finding the traces of continuity left behind by their earthshattering displacement. The silent films gathered in imperial collections contain stories which have seldom been told and colonial vantage points which have worked their way down into the present; Partition uses dialectical editing and asynchronous sound to examine both of these aspects. Recovering Palestine’s presence through stories, voices and songs, as well as unraveling the colonial past through soundscapes in the precarious present, Partition allows us to meditate on what the physical body remembers while empires forget.

The screening will be followed by a film colloquium moderated by Julia Martos and Marisa Benito Crespo.
