We will be hosting this themed tour on Saturday, May 1 as part of Cordoba’s Festival of Courtyards, in which Casa Árabe is participating as a “non-competing courtyard.” During the tour, we will get the chance to learn about a number of key female figures in the history of Cordoba and the social, cultural, political and economic contributions they made. Sign up and join us on the tour!

The tour, guided by Inmaculada Serrano Hernández, will combine the biographies of these women with the inestimable legacy they left behind: their strides towards equality, turned into indelible marks left behind on Cordoba. These are women who stood out individually, including: Lubna, Shifa, Ayab, Soraya, Muryán, Zayda, Subh Umm Wallad, Tarub, Aixa and Wallada...

We will also learn about various trades unique to women, which were crucial to the enrichment of Cordoba in every realm of life (social, cultural, political, etc.), as these women worked as copyists, secretaries, musicians and singers, poets, seamstresses, and weavers, in addition to playing other roles.

For this tour, we will be visiting several different sites, all linked to these women’s lives, many of which are iconic landmarks in our city’s historical heritage. Starting at Casa Árabe, we will visit the Rey Heredia Cultural Center (former Convent of Santa Clara), Calle Alfayatas, the Sabat Gate and the Caliphate Baths, ending next to the Statue of the Lovers in the Campo Santo de los Mártires.
