Casa Árabe is hosting a recital given by the Moroccan group Ziryab, which will be performing a repertoire inspired by mystical and religious songs in the tradition of Al-Andalus.
Sufis sing religious music with devotion, accompanying their songs with instruments and sounds that stimulate internal emotion, reflection and contemplation. The members of the group Ziryab pray as they sing, and that transcendental experience is expressed to the audience in a natural way. It is a show which attempts to share with the audience a convergence between the mystical experience and the tradition of northern Morocco’s Sufi brotherhoods. According to the members of this group, “what is most fascinating to the Spanish and European public is to experience the close connection existing with the musical tradition from Al-Andalus.”
This concert is also a display of the bond existing between the sounds and scales in Arab music with the different states of the body and soul. According to these musicians, whoever listens to this music with a certain degree of concentration may feel such benefits. Allowing oneself to be surrounded by the dynamic relationship between singing and the flute, or by the dialogue between the strings of the Arabic oud and psaltery help listeners experience the balance, tranquility and introspection of the soul, which both the performers and listeners need to complete the experience of an “inner journey” in all its plenitude.
Abderrahman Seddiki: Arabic oud and vocals
Mohamed Aghbalou: nay
Adel ben Yelloul: violin
Hicham Aghbalou: electric piano
Abdelhak Seddiki: darbuka / percussion
