Casa Árabe, with the cooperation of the Casa del Agua, invites you to
learn about the natural and historical water cycle in the city of
Cordoba. The tours will be given on the dates of October 18 and 19, and
November 16 and 30. SOLD OUT!
The Casa del Agua (House of Water) was brought to light with the intention of creating a museum and reference point for information on the culture of water, but it is also meant to be a place for reflection on the exploitation of this natural resource and the need to achieve a more rational use of it, committing future generations, as well.
The museum project is based on representing the natural and historical cycle of water in the city of Cordoba, as a vital element for the city, serving as a guiding thread to understand the uses and customs of the local inhabitants, the changes which have taken place across time and the difficulties encountered in accessing water.
The tour of this museum, guided by its director Luis Celorio, will take us into historical explorations related with water, since Cordoba was a “Colonia Patricia” and capital of the Roman region of Baetica, later becoming the capital of the Al-Andalus Caliphate, then moving on to discuss more contemporary use’s of water.
The museum is located in a historical building which, in addition to housing a section of Roman wall and sewer, contains a courtyard, well and cistern; it was also regularly used as a prison for women during the times of the Spanish Inquisition.
