On Thursday, May 7, we will be holding the second of our workshops to get a closer look at the era of Averroes and his legacy in an entertaining way through handicrafts. This time around, participants will be learning about medical knowledge in Almohad Cordoba by recreating the recipients used at apothecaries. Sign up now!

Ibn Rushd was not only a philosopher but also a prominent physician in the Cordoba of Almohad-era Al-Andalus. At this workshop, participants will be recreating “albarelos,” a type of recipient used in medieval pharmacies.

This activity harks back to the city’s scientific tradition, showing us anew how medical knowledge formed part of daily life in Averroes’s Cordoba, where science and practice co-existed to help serve society.
