TOLEDO
The Gerardo de Cremona International Award for the Promotion of Translation in the Mediterranean came into existence in 2015, promoted by the Toledo School of Translators at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and the MED 21 Program, with the support of the King Abdul-Aziz Foundation for Islamic Studies and Humanities (Morocco) and the Municipal Government of Cremona, Italy.

The ceremony  travels to different locations, and every year four awards are given out to translators and institutions devoted to translation (two from the southern shore of the Mediterranean and two from the northern shore). Work by translators who create bridges between these two shores is most highly valued. As of today, all the awards granted to translators from the southern shore have come from the Arab world  (Muaouia Alabdulmagid, Saleh Almani, Khadim Jihad, the National Translation Center of Egypt, the Schools of Translators of Tangiers and Beirut, etc.), though it is not restricted to just the Arab world but also includes Turkey, Israel and any other country or language along the shores of the Mediterranean.

The deadline for submitting candidacies is May 15, 2019, and all organizations, associations, institutions and centers devoted to performing, teaching, supporting and promoting translation in the Mediterranean may become candidates.
